Galatians 2:16
Easy-to-Read Version
16 But we know that no one is made right with God by following the law. It is trusting in Jesus Christ that makes a person right with God. So we have put our faith in Christ Jesus, because we wanted to be made right with God. And we are right with him because we trusted in Christ—not because we followed the law. I can say this because no one can be made right with God by following the law.
This passage expresses the foundation of what God used to teach us what salvation means and how we can obtain it as a gift from God, Romans 6:23. It explains clearly God’s plan to provide salvation to all: no one is made right with God by following the law, this is explained at Acts 13:39. This is the foundation used to show that no works can be rightly accepted if we are all sinners or cannot proper follow all of God’s laws because we are sinners. So God used Jesus Christ as the only one that could successfully follow all of God’s law perfectly. By putting faith in Jesus and following his footsteps we can be declared righteous due to our faith because that is all we were really capable of. By repeating the words: And we are right with him because we trusted in Christ—not because we followed the law. I can say this because no one can be made right with God by following the law. The Biblical explanation is shown at Galatians 3:19 and Romans 3:20.
