Hi, I would say that the Bible is clear to express that God did rest after he created everything, Genesis 2:1-3. The world that we live in now is not the way God intended people to live even through everything that God wanted has been created completely. As God created the earth with an experiment in mind we are continuing until the End of the world.
When the Second Coming of Christ arrives, we will go thru a series of changes that will create a new heaven and new earth, Isaiah 65:17-19. God will intervene in human affairs with the Great Tribulation which will feature several conditions on earth that will reveal the new heaven and new earth. The results of the experiment will be "published" to all so that we will be able to make the choice to worship God everywhere, Malachi 3:1-4. During the hour of test, we will recognize we are all dying, and we are unremorseful sinners which was not what human life was supposed to be like. This has been our lives since the beginning in which we were all born into sin, Romans 5:12.
The Bible tells us to get ahold of the real life, which is eternal in nature for humans, 1 Timothy 6:17-19. This would mean many changes for humans which will take time, to be exacting 1,000 years. For any single person to live that long is unfamiliar to us today, so with the start of handing out salvation to the chosen one we are starting a re- creation that has not begun since Adam and Eve lived on earth, 1 Peter 1:5.
