Yes, that is the general idea of forgiving them. You did not wish to be hostile, so you left before things got to that point. This Biblical advice is very important because people like to argue, and it can escalate very fast into becoming out of control. The personality of some people can be quite a test this is the reason why Jesus Christ was used as the ideal personality for everyone to follow including woman.
