God speaks through the Bible and reading the passages help us communicate with God easier. If you read a passage that speaks of a Christian virtue it would be very wise to follow it and try your best to live by it. We are expected to follow advice in the Bible, especially points that encourage Christian virtue, Genesis 1:26-28.
At James 1:22-25 it says we should listen and follow the information in the book, or we are Christians that forget who we are. The Bible is a reminder of sound doctrine, and we can do well to accept the advice of how to develop spiritual habits that are preserved in the Bible for us to continue reading over and over.
Romans 15:4
Living Bible
4 These things that were written in the Scriptures so long ago are to teach us patience and to encourage us so that we will look forward expectantly to the time when God will conquer sin and death.
