53 You will eat the offspring of your own body, the flesh of your sons and of your daughters, which the Lord your God has given you, during the siege and distress in which your enemies will persecute you.
Hi this is the original translation a city or country is under siege and the people are held captive. The ancient world does not work like a modern one, people did not have stores and the things we have today. People used simple staple as food such as grain as cereal and things like that, not the kinds of food we have today. It was much easier to stop a supply of grain used in different ways in the past. Especially if it was only one kind of grain common for all of their foodstuff. The people starved quite easily in those days without different varieties of foods to eat.
