Why did God choose Saul to be the first king of Israel and Jonathan the first prince if David's line was always going to be The Promised One?

Hi good afternoon well the people requested a king a person to lead them so God made the best choice that the people would like. The people are of course very simple, and the qualities of a leader will have to go along with experience. So, to start off the best choice was a handsome man and then from there people will learn how to identify a qualified king.

1 Samuel 9:2
Easy-to-Read Version

2 Kish had a son named Saul, who was a handsome young man. There was no one more handsome than Saul. He stood a head taller than any other man in Israel.
