HI thanks for the A2A. This question is directed towards the Jewish Messiah/Moshiach rather than the Christian Messiah. The Christian Messiah is said to return to earth in the modern era to establish the Kingdom of the Heavens. The Jewish Messiah is said to take up the heavenly government that brings certain elements to the earth, Yeshayahu 9:5
Both of the Judaism and Christian beliefs mean the same thing, the points of Yeshayahu/Isaiah tell of a heavenly governmental authority taken up by Moshiach that rules the entire earth. In the Christian belief this is referred to as: The Kingdom of the Heavens. Both beliefs mean GOVERNMENT headed by God not of human means. This is how the Messiah will restore or recover earth of a former and everlasting condition.
The next point is to recognize the timeline for the heavenly government to appear, this is a little tricky because there is so much confusion based on so many different religious beliefs. So, we need a modern occurrence that can pinpoint exact acknowledgement that satisfies everyone. There are two passages in the Torah/Holy Bible that does exactly that.

14 They should bandage the wounds my people have suffered,
but they treat their wounds like small scratches.
They say, ‘It’s all right, everything is all right.’
But it is not all right!

Be Ready for the Lord’s Coming
5 Now, brothers and sisters, we don’t need to write to you about times and dates. 2 You know very well that the day when the Lord comes again will be a surprise, like a thief who comes at night. 3 People will say, “We have peace and we are safe.” At that time destruction will come to them quickly, like the pains of a woman giving birth. And those people will not escape.
